Detailed description of Shanty Creek, Legend Golf Course
Shanty Creek Resorts is a Resort, 72 hole golf facility located in Bellaire, Michigan. The facility has four distinct 18-hole golf courses including Arnold Palmer's The Legend Course, Tom Weiskopf's Cedar River Golf Course, the challenging Schuss Mountain Course, and the original Summit Golf Course.
Shanty Creek, Legend Golf Course first opened for play in 1986. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer.
The Legend Course has exceptional greens and rolling, tree-studded fairways with several water hazards. The course covers seven miles of ground, and carts are obviously required. A number of panoramic views can be seen from the course.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,764 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,953 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 501 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 173 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 501 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 12, a 173 yard par-3.

This is our 4th course we are playing and the views here are ......Breathtaking and so is the layout. Course is cut through a rolling wooded forrest that offers many challenging hole layouts with meandering fairways, wooded borders, well positioned sand traps and undulating fast (9-10) greens. I believe you could never see a green from a Par 4-5 tee box and most approch shots were to elevated greens that only offered a flag stick view. The conditions here were impeccable tee to green and that includes the thick full (almost) playable stickly rough. They have five (5) tee's from Blacks @ 6,764yd / 73.2 / 137 down to Reds @ 4,895yd / 69.3 / 121 on this 1986 Arnold Palmer Par 36/36 layout. The photo on this insert I believe is #1 a downhill 496yd Par 5 with a side hill green you don't miss to the right. The #7 Par 5 at 501yds plays to its Hcp 1 by having two (2) layup creek crossings and a narrow elevated green that rejects ALL short shots. Playing to the 80-100yd approach shot here is a smart choice. The #13 Hcp 2 Par 5 at 569yds is a narrow sweeping left fairway with inside sand traps to catch those cutting too close. The #14 Par 4 at 379yds has the fairway ending 100yds out from the green, so plan that tee shot accordingly. The #18 Par 5 at 480yds is short but for the sweeping left uphill climb to the blind green. This track is a real gem on a lot of levels and choosing the right tee box is a good way to start. I ended up shooting 38/38 w/ 31putts with only one (1) 3 putt and a lot of good chips.
